The Second Iteration of Sample Holder to be Used at RMTL
The Queen's Reactor Material Testing Laboratory (RMTL) is a research facility for the Queens Nuclear Group. It uses a proton accelerator to introduce damage into materials at a microscopic scale. By studying the effects of this damage on the way that materials behave we can gain insight into the way that materials are damaged within a nuclear reactor.
I am working with the talented individuals at RMTL to design the next generation sample holder to be used at the facility. Having worked with the current design its many flaws and shortcoming are quite noticeable and it is very evident a replacement is needed. The new design will have improved accessibility, variance in sample size, electron suppression as well as a more reliable and consistent means of alignment with the particle beam.
Pictured above are many design concepts and drawings of various components of the 2na PISH
